Struggling with Mental Health

Struggling with mental health is a challenging experience which can affect a person emotionally and mentally. While you are studying meanwhile suffering from mental health it does take a toll on you. It is important to know at this experience that you are not alone. A lot of times it is harder for students to go through many things at once, so knowing that mental health consolers are there for you it is a big help. Concentration and motivation are hit the most which makes students go through anxiety and stress, while also lacking enough sleep.

Walesca Marmolejos, a full time licensed Mental Health Professional in Westchester Community College is here to tell us the importance of mental health and the affects it has on a student.

Marmolejos, takes on to explain that there is no big or small problem to seek help and that there is nothing wrong to speak to a mental health therapist.

Seeking help professionally and welcoming the support of others is the key to managing these challenges.

From Pool Side To Crime Scene

We live in a world where wicked things happen every day. A lot of that caused by people with no self-control and selfish motives and agendas that only cater to themselves. With that being said, we are fortunate enough to have police officers who serve our communities and have the objective of keeping us safe from danger every day. Unfortunately, the last few years, police officers have been in quite a bit of controversy for unfortunate events that occurred with them being the ones to end individual’s lives.

With that, they’ve been giving a narrative of horrible people with undeserved power because of a badge. But not all cops are like that. I got the opportunity to get insight on the struggles of an officer, NYPD Officer Ernst Celestin, and his life as an officer who happens to be my brother and see, through him, that not all cops have a negative agenda and are bad. His story is unique as his journey to a cop is unlike most.

With being a cop, every one of them is different in how they view their work and what drives them to keep going everyday and what may possibly do the opposite. All cops may be viewed as bad people but getting to understand from their perspective may change your narrative for them. This is JohnLey from WCC News reporting to you.

Cooper Joshua on his beginnings in table tennis, training regiments, and rivaly with Zay Cobb.

The Rivalry

When thinking of sports rivalries, I’m sure those in mainstream team sports like baseball, basketball, and football are the first to come to mind. As intense as these rivalries may be, a surprisingly equally intense rivalry has emerged in the Westchester table tennis scene between two young prodigies, Cooper Joshua (19) and Zay Cobb (20).

Originating at the Westchester Table Tennis Center located in Pleasantville NY, both Joshua and Cobb grew to become rivals in their youth, with the rivaly growing more and more bitter with each match. Being that they grew up only a town away (Joshua hailing from Briarcliff, Cobb from Pleasantville) they were frequently pitted off against each other in local youth tournaments, regional chmapionships, and even competitions on the national stage.

Inside of the Westchester Table Tennis Center, located in Pleasantville, NY.

As they’ve both gotten older and aged out of youth competitions, their rivalry never wavered. Today, they are both top compeditors with promising futures in going pro in the sport.

I sat down with Cooper Joshua to talk about his outlook on the rivalry, his beginning in the sport, his training regiments, and more in the audio down below:

Down the line, Joshua has aspirations to become a professional in the sport, represent the US national team, and compete in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. He has risen within the amature rankings, and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

Finding the Right Career Is Never Easy

Many college students go through classes not truly knowing what they want to be. Picking the right career is a difficult choice for all, and many switch majors multiple times throughout their college experience. Rarely do you completely change careers multiple times, however. Former WCC student Nick D’Amico talked about his experience changing careers, and gives advice to current students trying to figure out what they want to become.

Nick D’Amico works with the National Futures Association office in New York City. The goal of the NFA is to ensure that firms that conduct business in the Commodities Futures Derivatives industry is compliant with Commodities Futures Trade Commission (CFTC) regulations.

For those people still searching for the right career for them, you can take this online quiz from the Princeton Review to help narrow your choices.

A Modern Schism: The Controversy of the Traditional Latin Mass

By Keira Ferretti

For many years, the Catholic Church has been struggling to retain membership and weekly attendance. This is not a uniquely Catholic problem, according to a poll done by Gallup,

Gallup

church attendance has fallen below majority for the first time ever. However, there is one group within the Catholic Church that only seems to grow: those who attend traditional Latin Masses. This small group of about 100,000 parishioners (out of about 72 million) has been rapidly growing in the past few decades.

Many institutions and orders in the Church have been aiding in this revival, including the Institute for Christ the King, Sovereign Priest, which has several apostolates in the United States and internationally, namely St. Patrick’s Oratory in Waterbury, Connecticut.

Although most who attend Latin Masses simply have a preference, there is also a sect who believe the Novus Ordo (or vernacular) Mass is invalid. Some even go a step further and reject any popes beyond Pope Pius X, known as sedevacantists. These groups are generally rejected by mainstream Catholics who attend the Latin Mass, as their beliefs actually defy Catholic Church teaching.

With the growing number of Latin Mass attendees, there is only more attention to be gained for the movement. There are over 500 parishes in the United States that offer the Latin Mass at least once per week, according to the Latin Mass Directory. This figure is only rising as new parishes are being added to the directory’s list every day.

Regardless of what sort of mass one attends, Catholic leaders can agree on one thing: any church attendance, whether the Novus Ordo or the TLM, as long as it is legitimate, benefits all.

Mother’s Views on Abortion – Asked by her own Child!

When it comes to knowledge, many people in college have gained more than their fair share from extensive research and schooling… But scale a 20-year-old’s experience up by 38 years and add a drive that none of them have ever seen before, and you have Jacqueline Leone. A learned woman with multiple degrees (and in the process of another!), Jacqueline Leone adds her two cents to the rigorous debate on abortion in the USA, with questions asked by her own child, and author of this post: MARIA LEONE!

My mother has taught me about the world in ways that I could never hope to fully explain to an outside observer. Everything listenable here is just a small glimpse into the insight she has– and a small glimpse into the amount I have left to learn, seeing as even I will admit my questions fell flat on occasion.
