How long is Zach Wilson out? Jets’ QB injury timeline, return date, and more

A Pro Football Network article detailing New York Jets’ quarterback Zach Wilson’s knee injury and his hopefully quick return to action.

There are no photos, audio or video media included in this article. The article is a very short read.

Viewers can find the author’s name, Zachary Knerr, and a link to his Twitter account. There are 5 featured articles posted on the right side to get more visitors and potential fans of the website. Underneath the featured articles section there is a newsletter sign-up section that gives viewers a chance to enter their name and email to subscribe.

Main News Element:

Interest– Jets fans seeking updates to the team’s QB will find this article helpful and straight to the point.

Other Elements Present:

Usefulness– This article provides the best and most current possible answer to any questions fans would have.

Relevance– This information isn’t vital for fans to know, but it is there if they want it.

Sub News Elements:

Impact– Fans directly aren’t impacted by the news of Wilson’s injury status, unless they have a lot of money riding on this season to see the Jets succeed.

Conflict– The main struggle for the next few weeks will be Jets fans watching a lackluster team play on Sundays, if they choose to do so. The Jets are scheduled to play a couple of good teams before Wilson is set to make his return, so it could get ugly fast.

Novelty– There’s nothing particularly bizarre about this story. The New York Jets always have problems/bad luck, especially when fans are promised a change during the offseason.

Prominence– Zach Wilson is a semi-popular player in the NFL, and is known for being good despite being on a historically bad team. He still has the chance to make headlines league-wide this season, regardless of injuries.

Proximity– The article will mainly be consumed by local fans of the NY/NJ area, along with stray fans worldwide. Wilson’s injury status can also affect ticket sales for the Jets, fans don’t want to waste money on a team that’s not worth it.

Timeliness– This story will become outdated soon after its publication, as per usual with sports articles. An updated article will take its place, and so on and so forth.

Engagement– The article has the potential to get people talking about Jets news both among themselves and with the author/news site. The newsletter subscription section helps out with the article’s participation with viewers.

Solutions– The end of the story leaves fans an uplifting sentiment, stating that the Jets’ backup QB Joe Flacco (Super Bowl MVP) gives the team a good chance to win and head coach Robert Saleh having faith in Flacco. Yesterday’s loss against the Baltimore Ravens didn’t look so promising for the Jets, but fans will keep their hopes up awaiting Wilson’s return.

Main News Element

Interest: I think the main news element used in this online multimedia journalism story is Interest because the story I picked is more about entertainment than actual usefulness or relevancy. Although this story could be relevant to fishermen or people who work with the ocean, most people will just find this story interesting rather than gaining anything useful from it.

Sub News Element:

Novelty: This story is very unusual and does not occur often. A story like this will likely attract attention from most people even if they have no correlation to anything involved.

Proximity: The largest audience that will likely care for a story like this are the people in local towns or cities or even just citizens of Florida as a whole.

The Earthquake has impacted many lives.  The heavy rains and the risks of landslides forced residents to move to temporary shelters.  Chengdu, the provincial capital was also greatly impacted.  The people of Chengdu were locked in their homes for weeks or even months at a time from the COVID restrictions they were forced to obey.

https://www.instyle.com/news/serena-williams-us-open-sexism

This article is written by Alicia Brunker through the website In Style. It highlights sexism in the sport of tennis, specifically during a match between Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka back in 2018. Serena Williams was accused of receiving coaching from the chair umpire, resulting in code violation. She was furious with that statement, and smacked her racket on the court. She was then penalized with a point penalty. It only escalated from there.

Print: There is a photo of Serena pointing her finger at Carlos Ramos, the chair umpire, saying, “I didn’t get coaching. You need to make an announcement. . . . You owe me an apology. I have never cheated in my life. I have a daughter, and I stand for what’s right for her.” She then said, “you stole a point from me and you are a thief.” There is also another image of a quote by Billie Jean King, standing behind Serena for speaking out for women’s rights.

Audio: No audio without video present.

Video: Before the article itself, there is a short slideshow, no verbal wording, of Serena and tennis prodigy John McEnroe tweeting back and forth. As well, there are photos of Serena and her medals and trophies. There is also a short segment where Serena walks up in the middle of a game assuring to the chair umpire that she was not receiving coaching. She said, “I don’t cheat to win. I’d rather lose.” The commentators in the back reinstated what she had told umpire Ramos.

Interactivity: As you wrap up the article, on the very bottom there are multiple articles, some random and some extremely relevant. There are articles about other athletes in different sports. The big eye catcher is titled, “Serena Williams and Other Athletes Offer Words of Support to Naomi Osaka.” Being in a position with all that static revolving around your opponent was clearly mentally tough for Osaka. Another article is titled, “Naomi Osaka Says She Doesn’t Know If She’ll Play Tennis Again.”

Main News Elements:

Interest: For someone who is a tennis fan, this is definitely an interesting article. Just like politics, you only know so much about a topic in the heat of the moment. Over time, whether it be hours, days, months, or even years, everything unfolds. Watching in the moment, did not feel real. Letting reporters unpack, opens eyes to the reality of the situation and all the complexity it holds.

Relevance: Sexism happens in practically every sport. It is important to be informed in big situations like this one. It holds significance when you know which athletes are standing up for women’s rights. Whether that be a male or female.

Sub New’s Elements

Conflict: There is a large conflict between what a man can do to take out his anger during a tennis match in comparison to what a woman can do. Women tend to face consciousnesses while men rarely do.
