- Upon watching Anita Li’s presentation, I feel inspired in a sense. Her points presented in her Ted-Talk, sharing her personal experience in how Digital Journalism allows minorities of all sorts of backgrounds to share their input or perspective on situations. People of different ethnicities, races, and gender are able to share their stories to a wider audience in comparison to more traditional journalism stories as it allows for a sense of connection and interaction. From her example regarding her story, The Black Entrepreneur, people responded and spread the story. Not only that, but the immediate fame and audience it reached was remarkable. We can still see some examples of how Digital Journalism is still present today, for example in 2020 the entire situation with George Floyd. Due to someone recording the scene and bringing the footage to a reporter as the news would’ve most likely never become as widespread if it weren’t for Digital Journalists taking it upon themselves to share the devastating news.
- While using and watching the Reflections of the L.A. Uprising, I personally believe that of all the multimedia elements implemented that video is the best one. Alongside video, print is also the best way of conveying the stories they have shared. Personally, the augmented reality aspect is quite intriguing but it isn’t the method of multimedia journalism for me. I personally believe that more traditional methods of interactivity would work more for me such as slideshows, links, etc.

https://www.thenewshouse.com/off-campus/full-circle-hillside-farm-sustainable-farming/
Alexa and Jacob Newton run Hillside Farms in Truxton, New York. They use sustainable farming methods to raise animals and feed over 250 families. Their approach is different from most farms, where animals live in crowded spaces. The Newtons focus on natural ways to grow food, like grazing cattle and improving the soil. They sell their products directly to customers and give farm tours to show how their animals are raised. Their work continues the tradition of Alexa’s family, who started the farm in 1941. The Newtons want to show that healthy, natural food can be the norm.
The media types were used:
PRINT (Text/Words/Still Photos – Newspaper/Magazine journalism) The story uses in-depth text to convey the history, mission, and sustainable practices of Hillside Farms. It includes specific details about Alexa and Jacob Newton’s work, their farming philosophy, and their impact on the community. The words are effective and engaging. Still Photos are not used. It is not a newspaper or magazine journalism.
VIDEO (as you would find in TV journalism) The video likely complements the text by providing visual and auditory elements such as footage of the farm, interviews with the Newtons, and possibly a demonstration of their farming practices. Video is an effective addition, as it brings the story to life through visuals and sound, allowing viewers to see the Newtons’ work and connect emotionally.
AUDIO (as you would find in Radio journalism) No audio.
INTERACTIVITY (Links, Animations, Timelines, Sharing & Email options, etc. as in Web journalism)
The story includes five links, which serve as an interactive feature to direct readers to additional resources or information about the farm, the science of regenerative agriculture, or factory farming statistics. These links add depth and context to the main story. The interactivity is effective as it empowers readers to explore related topics and engage more deeply with the subject matter. The story does not mention the use of Animations or Timelines, so these are not part of the multimedia features in this piece. The story does not have sharing options on social media platforms, such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Youtube, or email options. It is in Web journalism.
So, while audio and animations/timelines/sharing/email options are not present, the story effectively uses print, video, and interactivity through links.
The story has three of the main news elements:
Relevance
The story is highly relevant to current discussions around sustainability, climate change, and ethical food production. As people increasingly care about where their food comes from and its environmental impact, the Newtons’ story resonates with these global concerns.
Usefulness
The story is useful because it educates readers about regenerative agriculture, an alternative to industrial farming. It also provides insight into sustainable practices that could inspire others to make more informed food choices or even adopt similar methods in their communities.
Interest
The story is interesting due to its personal touch—the Newtons’ family history, their daily commitment to farming, and their passion for educating others.
This story includes the following Sub-elements of News:
Impact
The story highlights the Newtons’ sustainable farming practices, which directly impact over 250 families by providing them with healthier, ethically-raised food. This focus on local food production and sustainability has broader implications for the environment and agriculture, making it impactful.
Conflict
The story touches on the contrast between the Newtons’ regenerative agriculture practices and industrial farming methods. While not framed as an overt conflict, the tension between these two approaches (sustainable vs. industrial) can be seen as a form of conflict in modern farming.
Novelty
The use of regenerative farming methods and direct sales to consumers is relatively novel compared to the industrial farming model. The Newtons’ approach stands out as a fresh and innovative way to produce food.
Proximity
The story has local proximity to Central New York, where the farm is based, making it particularly relevant to the surrounding community who may be familiar with the farm and its practices.
Timeliness
Given the growing interest in regenerative agriculture, the timing is relevant for current conversations about food production.
Engagement
The story fosters engagement through interactive elements like farm tours and customer involvement, where people can connect with the Newtons and see how their food is raised. This creates a deeper level of engagement than just a transactional relationship with food.
Solutions
The Newtons’ regenerative farming practices provide a solution to some of the challenges posed by industrial farming, such as the depletion of soil, overuse of chemicals, and the lack of transparency in food production. Their approach offers a sustainable alternative.
All of these elements combine to make the story not just good but great, as it connects with readers on multiple levels and offers them something to think about or act upon.

Luka Doncic to Lakers, Anthony Davis to Mavs in 3-team trade – ESPN
The Dallas Mavericks recently pulled off one of the biggest trades in NBA history. Maverick’s Luka Doncic was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers for Anthony Davis. This historic move left the NBA, the sports world, and its fans confused and in shock late Saturday night. Initial reports suggest the Mavericks desire to move on from Luka was due to Luka’s inability to stay healthy and in shape. With this trade, Luka loses out on a potential $345 million super max contract, which he can no longer receive due to the trade.
- This story was worth choosing due to my interest in basketball. As a huge fan of the NBA, I know how shocking and confused this trade left me and others. Some may agree this trade is the equivalent to trading in a Lamborghini (Luka) for a golf cart (Davis)…it just makes no sense.
- The multimedia used in this ESPN article are print and interactivity.
- The intended audience for this story is sports fans. One main news element for this story is interest. Luka Doncic and Anthony Davis are both All-NBA players and highly known players recognized globally. Any fan that follows major sports closely knows how this trade impacts the Playoff run for all teams and how it could shake up team dynamics. For someone not into sports this story may not hold any significance or relevance to them. This kind of story is newsworthy to organizations, players, and fans of the sports world. The Lakers gained a young, global superstar (Luka) and paired him up with Lebron James, who is widely considered to be one of the greatest basketball players of all time. The sub-news element I would choose for this story would be prominence. I say prominence because Luka Doncic and Anthony Davis are both two high-profile players known around the world. When news broke about trade it was trending on all social media platforms. It left fans with a variety of emotions, mainly confusion. This trade was so big that everyone thought it was fake news until reports from reliable sources confirmed the news.

Frame-MMJ Example
The multimedia journalism example I decided to choose was an article with a trailer for the upcoming Hypnosis Microphone movie. The movie titled “Hypnosis Mic — Division Rap Battle” place in the future, in a world where weapons are banned. The country of Japan is divided into sectors, and people are forced to fight over those territories by having rap battles. The division rap battle is where the top teams from each sector compete against each other for money and fame while being inside of a huge arena. These teams come from different areas in Japan, such as different sectors in Tokyo (Shibuya, Shinjuku, and Ikebukuro). Some of the other groups come from other areas in Japan such as Yokohama, Osaka, and Nagoya. While there have already been two division rap battles with the Shibuya and Shinjuku team winning, a third one is going to take place in the movie. The series itself is also a multimedia franchise, having cds with each groups music and drama tracks, multiple apps and a game on the Nintendo Switch, an anime, and even a stage production. Besides the plot, the upcoming movie is also supposed to be Japan’s first interactive movie. This means that fans are able to control the plot of the movie and the winner of the rap battle by simply voting on their phones. Basically that means what whichever group or storyline gets the most votes during certain parts of the movie will be the outcome of that screening.
A.) What about the story made it worthwhile enough for you to choose?
I decided to choose this article because first of all, Hypnosis Mic is a series that I am into. I am also excited for the upcoming movie. While I did choose it because it is a series I am into, the technological and interactive aspect of the movie had me intrigued. It makes me wonder how many different scenarios for the movie did the producers have to go through to make the interaction and voting piece work. I am very excited for the movie to come out later this month!
B.) What types of Multimedia were used by the reporter to tell the story?
The reporter used text, images, a YouTube link to the trailer, and a couple of hyperlinks.
C.) Audience, main news element and sub news element
The audience for this piece would be people who are into anime and film. Perhaps people who are into technology or movie producers who are looking for ideas. The main news element for this article would be interest. This is because a reader who is interested in anime and film would find this interesting. People are most likely to be intrigued by the technology and interaction aspect of the movie. Since interactive movies are not really a thing in general. I haven’t even heard of a concept for an interactive movie using smartphones until the announcement of this movie. I believe that anybody reading this article would find the concept of an interactive movie interesting as it is something I have never thought of myself. If the movie comes out internationally, maybe people around the world would want to watch due to the technology and options used to control the movie. For a sub element, I would choose novelty. This is because the whole plot of the movie and the series, as well as the concept of the movie are just unusual and unheard of itself. I have heard of interactive shows on Netflix, but not in a movie theater where everyone is in control of what happens next. It makes me wonder how the movie is going to work.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2025/02/03/day-without-immigrants-businesses-close/78176470007/
During Trump’s 2nd term as president of our country, one malicious decision he has made was a “crackdown” on immigrants. In the past few days, I.C.E., the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, has made several arrests on both documented and undocumented civilians. Due to his actions, several businesses have had a surge of missing workers due to fear of being deported. This article discusses the topic and how businesses nationwide have participated in “Day Without Immigrants”, allowing their employees paid time off to stand in solidarity with their employees against this regime. Several people have supported this, not shopping or closing their business down for the day to show their support worldwide.
What about the story made it worthwhile for you to tell?
– I have chosen to talk about this story due to its relevance in our world today. Being from a family of immigrants, some undocumented, they have been the backbone of our society for so many jobs that people don’t notice or care for until it’s too late.
What types of Multimedia were used to tell the story?
– The types of media used in this article to discuss this story were most obviously print, a slideshow showcasing detention centers for migrants detained by I.C.E., and interactivity by containing links connecting to a multitude of other articles related to the topic at hand.
Identify the Audience and Who It’s For
– The audience for this story is for the general public. This includes, the average person, anyone who is an immigrant or knows any immigrants, those who are undocumented immigrants, and more.
Main News Elements
The main news element of this story is Relevance, the effects discussed in this story affects everyone in the U.S. as the prices for goods will increase due to people being deported who do everyday necessary jobs that get overlooked like farming.
Sub-News Elements
There are a few sub-news elements present in this article. Those elements being Timeliness, Conflict, and most importantly Impact.
For Timeliness, this occurred today on February 3rd, 2025. The news is also continuing to develop as people all over are being detained ranging from those who are undocumented, people who are documented, children, and more.
For Conflict, the issues present are caused by people who have a “fear” of migrants. Afraid that immigrants will “take all the jobs” when immigrants usually work jobs that many people are unqualified for like farming or construction.
And finally, for Impact, this will impact the daily lives of EVERYONE. Groceries will go up, which includes food, toiletries, cleaning supplies, clothes, and more.
LINDER-MMJ EXAMPLE
https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/43078385/nba-trade-deadline-2025-latest-deals-news-reports
The story I chose to write about is, “Luka Doncic to Lakers, Anthony Davis to Mavs in 3-Team Trade”, written by Dave McMenamin from ESPN, Feb 2, 2025.
Calling it a “blockbuster trade, McMenamin reported that the Dallas Mavericks announced on Sunday Feb, 1st that Dallas had acquired Anthony Davis from the Lakers and the Lakers had acquired Luka Doncic from the Mavericks. The Lakers also received Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris from the Mavericks and Dallas acquired Max Christie and the Lakers 2029 first round pick.
McMenamin explained that Dallas initiated the trade talks with the Lakers who were in agreement on the deal. McMenamin also reported that Lebron James and both Davis and Doncic were not told about the trade ahead of time.
He went on to explain the two teams reasonings for the trade. The Lakers believe the combination of Doncic with Lebron James will be very strong, “a 1-2 punch”, while the Mavericks believe the combination of Davis with Kyrie Irving will be equally fierce.
He also mentioned several statistics which explain how valuable both players are. For example, he cited Doncic’s 28.6 point average “which is third in NBA history, behind only Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlin.” Anthony Davis was “an Allstar pick for the tenth time in his career… and is a five time all NBA selection.”
The reporter summed up the trade as follows: “The deal is as stunning as it is historic. It’s the first time that two reigning All-NBA players have been traded for each other midseason, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.”
McMenamin ended the news story by reminding readers that the Lakers and Mavericks play each other twice more in the regular season, February 25 in Los Angeles and April 9 in Dallas.
A.)The reason that I chose to write about this story is because I am a fan of NBA basketball and have been following the players immediately impacted by this news. The fact that this trade is both highly unusual and will likely affect the future of the NBA makes this news really important to understand as a fan and a basketball player myself.
B.) The types of multimedia that were used by the reporter to tell the story include: print, video, audio, and interactivity.
C.) Since this story is so unusual and has so much coverage, I think the audience is multi-faceted and large. First, of course, would be NBA players and fans and their networks of families and friends. There is also a large audience who bet on basketball and will undoubtedly be affected by this trade. Since this is such a big commercial transaction, I think the audience will include anyone interested in business, the entertainment industry, and of course sports in general.
I think the main news element in this story is interest for its many different audiences. For the NBA players and fans, they obviously follow individual players and their trades very closely. The same would be true for the people who bet on basketball because they think their financial success often depends on which players are affiliated with which teams. For all other audiences, the huge scale of the transaction and the possible effect on the NBA, makes the story of great general interest.
One sub news element is obviously prominence. Both Anthony Davis and Luka Doncic are perennial superstars. They are household terms within the basketball world but they are also known by sports fans, business people and the entertainment industry.

https://www.cnn.com/2025/01/28/europe/elon-musk-german-chancellor-right-wing-support-intl-latam/index.html
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz criticized Elon Musk for getting involved in Germany’s election and supporting the far-right party AfD, calling it “disgusting.” Musk has shown support for AfD online and even spoke at one of their rallies. His comment that Germany should “move beyond” its guilt over the Holocaust caused a lot of controversy, especially during the anniversary of Auschwitz’s liberation. Scholz was especially angry about this, saying Germany has a duty to remember its past. Musk also spoke against multiculturalism and said this election is crucial for the future of civilization.
A.) What about the story made it worthwhile enough for you to choose?
I chose this story because it deals with an important issue about how powerful people can influence politics. The idea of ‘moving beyond’ the guilt of the Holocaust, especially during a time when we’re remembering it, makes me think about how we should view history and its importance today. It’s important to understand our past so we don’t make the same mistakes again. The story also caught my attention because it shows how global events can affect democracy, and I like to stay informed about what’s going on in the world to understand how it could impact all of us.
B.) What types of Multimedia were used by the reporter to tell the story?
The story uses multimedia in the form of videos. Most of the content includes interviews with Chancellor Olaf Scholz, additional footage of Scholz in other interviews, and videos showing Elon Musk at the far-right AfD rally.
C.) First, identify the AUDIENCE you think this story is intended for. Then identify which MAIN NEWS ELEMENT you think is present in this story. Also, pick at least one SUB-ELEMENT you find to be present.
This story is for people interested in politics, especially in Europe. It will be interesting for those who follow global events and care about the influence of powerful figures on politics, democracy, and human rights.
Relevance is the main news element because it’s important for people to understand how influential figures like Elon Musk are affecting political decisions both in Europe and around the world. Musk’s involvement with Germany’s far-right party, AfD, and his comments on Germany’s past could influence political outcomes and public opinion, potentially shaping democratic processes in Europe and beyond.
The sub-news elements would be;
Impact: Musk’s involvement in German politics affects many people, influencing the political landscape and potentially altering democratic outcomes in Europe and globally.
Conflict: The struggle between Olaf Scholz and Elon Musk, especially over political influence, highlights the tension between differing political views.
Prominence: Musk’s influence and fame make the story significant, as his actions carry weight due to his name.

Another Danger Looms After The LA Fires: Devastating Debris Flows
In the aftermath of the recent Los Angeles wildfire, experts warn of an increased risk of debris flows, which are fast-moving masses of mud, rocks, and water that can cause significant damage. The fires have stripped the landscapes of vegetation, leaving soil dried and exposed therefore more susceptible to erosion. When heavy rains occur, the soil in this condition can give way, leading to debris flows that threaten lives and property. this situation mirrors the 2018 Montecito indicent, where post-fire drebris flows resulted in 23 fatalities and destroyed over 100 homes. Residents in affected areas are advised to remain vigilant, especially during rainstorms.
A.) What about the story made it worthwhile for you to choose?
I am interested in environmental issues and conservation. I am more compelled by stories and articles that describe the science behind the conflict. Although this particular issue doesn’t directly affect me, I like to stay well versed in current events and I just find this subject interesting.
B.) What types of Multimedia were used by the reporter to tell the story?
Print makes up a majority of this article, including photos of the aftermath of debris flows from 2018 to give the audience visuals of the results of debris flows. Additionally, a video showing a debris flow and mudslides in action which occurred after a fire. It shows how quick the land erodes and collects debris. Lastly, interactivity includes links to other articles such as more in-depth coverage of the Palisades and Eaton fires and an interactive satellite map which represents the impact of the 2017 Thomas fire and the 2018 post-wildfire debris flows.
C.) Identify the audience you think this story is intended for. Then identify which one main news element you think is present in this story.
The audience for this story includes the residents of the affected areas described, scientists and environmental experts alongside those interested in these fields, and also emergency responders and local authorities to be prepared for something like this.
This article best fits into the news element of usefulness. This story includes important safety information for people living and working in areas affected by these wildfires. it explains dangers of debris flows, why they happen, and how residents can protect themselves or prepare. This article raises awareness about a real and immediate risk.
The sub-news elements that fit this story include:
Impact: This article discusses the potential dangers of debris flows, which can cause property damage, injuries, or even deaths which directly impact people in these areas.
Timliness: This article is relevant at this current point in time because it follows recent wildfires and serves as a warning for additional risks that may follow.
Engagement: The story encourages readers, especially those in affected areas to take action by staying informed and prepared for potential evacuation orders.
Solutions: This article offers practical advice on recognizing the risks of debris flows and what people can do to stay alert and safe just in case.
