The Mental Health Epidemic

Mental health is one of those things that many people disregarded as an actual problem. You have probably heard or seen people talking about how having poor mental health is not an excuse to be “lazy” or “unsuccessful”. The reason why people thought this was because it wasn’t as prevalent and not as common as it is now. One thing we can blame that helped kickstart this epidemic is Covid-19. Isolation from the world and people had a significant impact on peoples (especially teens) mental health. Here is Richard Ripacci, a certified therapist, to help us understand this problem a bit more.

As Richard said, these feelings wont last forever. As long as we come together as a community we can help battle this mental health crisis to make this world a better place.

Man City caught in breaching FFP regulations for the 2nd time in 3 years

Manchester City is in hot water again for the 2nd time in 3 years. Manchester City faced allegations of breaching Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations in 2019, which led to a two-year ban from UEFA competitions, including the Champions League. However, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) overturned the ban, stating that some of the allegations were time-barred and others were not established. As a result, Manchester City were cleared of any wrongdoing. Nonetheless, the case has raised questions about the effectiveness of FFP regulations and the ability of clubs to circumvent them. But now allegations are back David Oliva and Joe Illenye go into what could happen to Man City if proven guilty this time around.

Mental Health.m4a

If you’re someone who goes to the gym, you’ll relate to this connection. I went to the NYSC in Somers and spoke to Justin, (Trainer), and Micheal (Manager) about working out and mental health.

We discussed many topics and came to the conclusion that fitness is a very helpful tool to our lives. The mental state it builds fo run, friendships, and how it helps us become the best version of ourselves.

If you ever want to better yourself, build your self esteem, and achieve some goals, try making a commitment to fitness and i’m sure you will not regret it.

Cheerleading was recognized as a sport by The International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 2021, making it a possibility that it will be an Olympic sport in the future.  Cheerleading was officially recognized as a school sport in New York State in 2014.  Cheerleading is exciting and fun, especially at the competition level, but it also involves a very dangerous element: concussions.

The rate of concussions happening in cheerleading is so significant that CHRON https://livehealthy.chron.com/dangerous-football-cheerleading-2966.html, states that “…cheerleading, hands down is the most dangerous sport for women, while football is the most dangerous sport for men.”  Headcasecompany.com reported that “33% of high school athletes who have a sports concussion report two or more in the same year…” and cheerleading was among the sports included in their findings. https://headcasecompany.com/concussion_info/stats_on_concussions_sports

A former high school cheerleader gives an account of the concussions she experienced in the sport:

In a report from the National Center for Catastrophic Sport Injury Research At The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (NCCSIR), between 2020-2021 the majority of injuries (which include head/brain and spinal injuries) occurred in football but cheerleading had the next highest rate of traumatic injuries. Basketball, baseball and rodeo all had lower rates of traumatic injuries compared to cheerleading. https://nccsir.unc.edu/wp-content/uploads/sites/5614/2022/10/2021-Catastrophic-Report-AS-39th-AY2020-2021-FINALw.pdf
