This personal experience of loss and resilience became the emotional core of her debut book, The Diary of a Realty Girl. “I was in pain. I miss, I was missing my baby. And I was in love also with my first husband,” she shared.

Her story of love, loss, and longing resonates deeply. “He was my first kiss. He was my first love. I wanted to be with him,” Sissy reflects, drawing from the raw emotion of her own journey.

Sissy also spoke about the impact her book has had on readers worldwide. “People were writing me on Facebook saying, “Oh Sissy, this is not only Sissy’s story. This is my story.”

Her book has become a voice for those who share similar experiences of migration and longing.

Drawing With Vincent: By Dani Frame

Vincent, a lifelong aspiring artist whose favorite hobby is drawing, sat down today and talked all about drawing.

He started with about why and how he started drawing. He said that he started at a young age. In addition to this, he also said he enjoys the creative aspect of drawing and art.

“I’ve been pretty much drawing my entire life. I’ve definitely fell on and off of it at certain points, but I enjoy the creative aspect of it and I do always wind up coming back to it. I mean, I always enjoyed doing it, just even as a kid, because, you know, when everybody’s three years old, they’re putting crayons and paper in front of everybody. So, um, I guess I just never really stopped from there. The creativity aspect just really always drew me back to it.”

He also stated that he enjoys drawing in different kinds of mediums. These include colored pencil and watercolor. He also added his favorite type of things to draw are people.

When it comes to motivation and what inspires him to draw, Vincent states that he has no one inspiration. He is inspired by the things he sees in everyday life. If it’s cool or means something to him, he will try to draw it.

“What motivates me is usually just seeing whether it’s other pieces of art or other photos or other things in real life that make me think, okay, I kind of want to try drawing that. That looks awesome.”

While Vincent is very passionate about drawing, he has sure had his fair share of ups and downs. When asked what he struggles most with in drawing, he easily stated that clothing folds were his worst enemy.

“Right now, I feel like I’m struggling a lot with clothes, just the way, just making clothes look good and how for things to fold correctly. It’s difficult, but I feel like at the end of the day, I could continue to avoid it and draw things that don’t let me, or I can do what I’m doing right now, which is to force myself to draw what I hate drawing, so then eventually that’s something I don’t hate drawing anymore.”

He also stated that there were many times that he’s felt let down with his art.

“I feel like there’s definitely points where you look at your drawings and go, okay, this could be better. Why do all of these suck? But really, at the end of the day, it’s just about just continuing to draw until you get better enough to get past that.”

Vincent said that he likes to draw because he finds it relaxing. Art is even being used as a way for therapy because it is so distracting and engaging. Scientists and therapists say that it helps keep your mind off of troubling matters and distracts you from the reality of daily life.

When it comes to new artists or people just getting back into art, Vincent believes that everyone starts off not so great at first and that’s to be expected. He states that it goes for any new hobby or activity. The greatest artists and athletes in the world had to have started somewhere too. He believes that you should keep trying at something until you like it and you’re satisfied with what you have made. Even he has challenges although he’s been drawing his entire life. Like he mentioned with clothing folds.

Whether you are a new artist or have been drawing for years, Vincent emphasizes that it is so important to be inspired and have an eye for the things around you and to be inspired. That is his biggest motivator and his largest recommendation when it comes to art.

April 27, 2025 – Final Score: Patient Grind 57, Dream Elite 56

Patient Grind continues to solidify its name in Rockland County, securing their second straight Zero Gravity Tournament title with a 57–56 win over Dream Elite. In a game that came down to teamwork and execution, Patient Grind proved again why they’re a team to watch for.

Standout performances came from Rotimi Esiso, Kyle Kirkland, and Charles Byers, each delivering crucial plays on both offense and defense. Head Coach, Anthony Hodges emphasized preparation and wanting to be physically and mentally ready especially with eyes on bigger events like Made Hoops.

First year player Rotimi Esiso says the preparation for these tournaments were no joke.

“The toughest part is the conditioning, because it’s brutal.  We’ll have to run homicides… I know we’re doing it so we can get better and it’s just part of the grind.”

Players like Kyle Kirkland are focused on growing more as an overall player.

“Even though I’m known for my mid-range, I’m working on expanding my game. If you can score on all levels, you’re dangerous… it’s a lot of hard work and you have to do that if you want to get better.”

Despite being undersized compared to other programs, Patient Grind makes up for it in discipline and communication.

“We’ve got heart. We’ve got some fight in us…it’ a team sport nobody can do it by themselves” says Coach Hodges.

With two straight titles under their belt, the team isn’t satisfied yet. They’re chasing more, with Made Hoops and national exposure in their sights.
