Fitness, Here is What it Takes.

How Fitness Improves the Daily Lives of People:

Many Americans find it complex to not only stay in shape through the use of exercise, but also lack enough time to get involve in fitness activities.

Exercise not only leaves individuals feeling better but also improves appearance. Among the impacts of exercise to the brain include the stimulation of various chemicals that contribute to more happiness and decreased anxiety. Self-esteem and confidence may also improve following such activities.

In the aging population, exercise has been termed effective in lowering risks for falls, preventing disease, increasing social ties, improved mental and general well-being, and in improving cognitive function. Exercise is a good habit especially when people are growing older and might be slower. My dad explains how he would not know how he would look physically and mentally if it wasn’t for staying so consistent and maintaining his healthy lifestyle every day.

Online Learning vs In School Learning

Learning can never be stopped; it is a lifelong process. Many passionate individuals prefer to continue their studies alongside a career. This requires flexible schedules and proper time management. Online learning can be a suitable option for them to fulfill their goals. The classroom environment facilitates an active interaction among educators and learners. The students have to follow the rules associated with an institute. Over the past few years, the pandemic has affected the entire world. It has brought tremendous changes in various sectors, especially the education sector. While classroom learning allows for a face-to-face connection, online learning also has its own benefits.

Many may believe with the changes in the way students are being taught that there is one medium of teaching that is better than the other. As technology has developed, we’ve been able to connect with people all over the world through apps like WhatsApp, FaceTime, Zoom, WeChat, etc. Needless to say, education has also evolved to connect students and instructors in virtual classrooms.  It’s clear that things are not the way they used to be before 2020, and many have debated whether or not in-person learning is better than online learning. But how do the two compare? Is one really better than the other?

Need a break from cable news? Hollywood Life may be right up your alley.

Often times, when reading things online or hearing something on the news, our intuition tells us to fact-check the information we are given. It is very hard to know if you are on a reputable website or channel and getting your material from a trustworthy source. If only we could trust everything we read and hear about. Hollywood Life puts emphasis on their mission to be consistent and give their audience nothing but the truth. Bonnie and her brilliant team heavily prioritize breaking news stories before they come out through other outlets. This is one of the many reasons the site is as popular as it is.

Given the fact that Hollywood Life has become such a well known news source, they have some incredible connections. Not only does the website land “exclusive interviews,” but it also covers original police reports, legal documents, 911 tapes, lawyers’ statements, court transcripts, and so much more.

When the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the United States, many did not see it as much of a threat. Day by day, it quickly grew into the global pandemic we now look back on and still fight against. During this time, many small business owners were at great risk of losing their businesses. With many Americans simply avoiding going outside all together, restaurants, stores, and even hair salons suffered greatly. Maya Cabigeos is the owner of a small restaurant/cafe in Brooklyn, NY named Choice Market and I met with her to gain some insight into what it was like trying to keep her business alive despite the circumstances we were in.

IMMIGRANTS, THEN AND NOW

The US is home to many immigrants. Many other countries can respectively say the same given the number of people coming in. Although this may be, everyone’s transition from one country to another is different and their path in doing so may vary. It is important to be aware of these differences and keep them in mind. Two individuals identifying with differently, distinct backgrounds, situations, upbringings, and generations shed light on their respective journeys.

“Do you know what a foreign accent is? It’s a sign of bravery.”, taken from Amy Chua’s Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother. Regarding the transitions of immigrants to new countries, the language barrier has often been considered a very difficult thing to overcome. Shifting from one culture to the next and picking up a new language is seemingly a journey in and of itself. A 19- year-old, Christ Jon, from the Ivory Coast in Africa and a 78-year-old, Richard Rodriguez, Puerto Rican who moved from Mexico to the US, detail their experiences.

Language is much more than verbal words. However, when trying to communicate, many focus solely on the verbal aspect rather than digging deeper. This can play into the experiences face. Wanting to understand other immigrants and how they cope with language barriers, a Mr. Vu Nguyen researches the English language’s impact on US immigrants. You can read his findings here. https://nccdiaspora.com/overcoming-language-barriers-and-cultural-shock-how-to-adapt- to-a-new-life-in-the-united-states-quickly-for-new-immigrants/

Certain institutions and organizations implement ways of helping those trying to break the language barrier.

Data shows that an increase in gasoline prices impacts individuals and businesses alike. While individuals face increased costs at the gas station which negatively affects their familial budget, businesses are faced with challenges owing to inflated costs of shipping, transportation, logistics etc., which in turns leads to higher costs for the consumer.

The United States remains the largest producer and the largest consumer of oil, meaning that any fluctuation in the global price can have positive or negative impacts on the financial health of our country.

Interviewing economics Professor Farhad Ameen of WCC and his insights helped comprehend nuances surrounding gasoline prices in America and abroad, clear misconceptions on the topic and understand its influence on our lives.

A Veteran Educator’s Experience

The state of the U.S. education system has never looked so grim.

In an article published by NPR entitled “The Teacher Shortage Is Testing America’s Schools,” the National Education Association estimates that there’s a shortage of 300,000 teachers and education staff throughout the country.

One reason for this may be the subversion of expectations that once hopeful, aspiring teachers experience when they eventually enter the workforce. Though a noble profession, the difficulties and frustrations of teaching should not be overlooked. For an educator to be proficient at their job, their fulfillment of the role must outweigh the stress that comes with it.

In an interview with Joseph Sgammato, an adjunct English professor at Westchester Community College as well as the faculty-advisor for the school’s official newspaper, The Viking News, the complexities of teaching are explored by a veteran whose been in the field for over 20 years.
