CONVEY – Amanpour

I agree with Christiane Amanpour statement that  “a great america requires a great and free safe press.” I believe that the media did not cover the election fairly, and did a terrible job at masking their support of a certain candidate. Amanpour stated in the video that it was time to “recommit to robust fact based reporting.” I agree, as the media did not accurately report the 2016 presidential election. However, I do not think that Amanpour recognized the biased reporting that most of the media did.

La Vigne – Amanpour

Christiane Amanpour was spot on during her entire speech.  I have been wondering for quite some time when someone would come up and speak on these issues; not just on the internet but actually in front of an audience of successful and renowned journalists.   We are all so used to what the mainstream media fills our heads with, that anytime someone stands up to point out the lies and decides to tell the truth we are all so baffled.

In her speech she mentioned all of the fake news floating around on the world wide web and posted on social media outlets such as Facebook.  She really hit the nail on the head there because no one thinks to fact check some of these stories when they are written in such a way, it is difficult to differentiate between what is indeed ‘fact’ and in fact just words to skew our perception on an event that occurred; sometimes the entire thing is fabricated.  I have signed a petition myself several weeks ago asking for the ban of fake news stories on Facebook; asking Mark ‘S’uckerberg to take down all of the fake news articles and websites that appear on everyone’s news feeds.

I for one am sick and tired of it.  As a Journalism student, I have sometimes been fooled by a few articles before I had to check the legitimacy of the source or “fact check” as Amanpour said in her speech.  The spreading of false information, or misinformation is dangerous to our democracy/nation as a whole.  (She also spoke about the protests that went on after President Elect Trump won the 2016 election and how how absurd it is that our two candidates pretty much had one huge pissing contest, and so did their supporters; where the losing side took to the streets in anger and disbelief, causing havoc.)

And as a journalist, Amanpour also hints the dangers of telling the truth as a journalist.  It is a widely accepted fact that being a Journalist in  modern day society is a very dangerous job to have; even if you are not a war correspondent.  There is a quote by Plato that sums up telling the truth perfectly..

“Those who are able to see beyond the shadows and lies of their culture will never be understood, let alone believed, by the masses.” -Plato (427 – 347 BC)

Lambros Amanpour

I agree with Christiane Amanpour on her speech. One of the points that I agree with is that Journalists have their own point of view and some of them post online for people to read their thoughts. Also, social media effects politics because people are consumed by social media on what they say about the other politicians. Everything that people see or read on social media is not always true. People  are not taking the time out on reading on researching the facts on social media. Instead, they choose to be ignorant to the truth. Values have been lost due to social media because people tend to go with candidates that are more similar to them. It’s the reporters jobs to report real information on politics. The extremists are murdering people because of their beliefs and false reports on social media.

In conclusion, we need our journalist to be more factual.

Valdovinos-Amanpour

With this story line I feel as if there is no person in the clear right or clear wrong. I feel as if both parties, one being Donald Trump and the other being the media have both crossed lines between what is correct or not. The media feels threatened and or attacked by president elect trump but on the other hand so does the president elect Trump. The media I do feel has been very strong towards Donald Trump he has in fact many times deserved it with such things being labelled as locker room talk and much more. On the contrary fact is that many articles are being published throughout the internet which are completely false and many people are believing in. Like what Christine Amanpour speaks about just websites making up stories just to get clicks and likes. She feels threatened that at one point she feels we can be like Russia and have the government control the media. Though I do feel that many values have been trampled on with the appointment of Trump. I believe or at least hope that he understands the value of the press and at the same time doesn’t try and change it. So at this point I stand in the middle of the battle. Open eared and hopeful that things will work out.
