I am reviewing an article that was posted on the very popular media outlet complex.com. The article was about how a united states marine of Muslim faith and middle eastern descent endured cruel and unusual mistreatment at the hand of “Drunk” drill instructors. The marine in question (which is not named in the article) recalls being forced in to an industrial clothing dryer so that the accompanying drill instructors can watch as the dryer was turned on and off several times. Not only is the marine traumatized but he also suffered multiple burns to his body. Over 20 staff members are under investigation and also face a possible court martial. I enjoyed this article because of how straight to the point and easy to understand it was. Complex Media seems to have editors that are good at cutting threw a lot of the useless journalism jargon that seems to be flooding some of the more well respected new outlets. The article was also very interactive with almost every resource used to write the article being highlighted and italicized. It helps the reader find information that is directly linked to the article furthering the readers understanding of such a controversial topic. I think the article lacked flair. Complex uses a lot of stock photos that look like they could have been pulled directly form google images. If there were photos that could tie names and faces together, it would have raised the shock value and interest of the article as a whole.
