High School Sports Amidst Covid-19

In New York, primary and secondary schools re-opening has been a hot topic sense March, including high school and  youth sport starting agin. With that being said fall high school sports got off the ground on September 21st, almost a month after they were originally supposed to start. Listen to the interview between myself and Roman Catailno Athletic Director at Somers Central School District to see who made it possible and how it was made possible.

The Interview

Overall  talking about the starting of high school athletics we see it was no small task to accomplish it took athletic directors and schools from around the state. We see that the students and the community are all glad to be back, especially the parents being able to give their kids a sense of normalcy back during this time. Overall athletic directors will not turn a shoulder to there student athletes and try their hardest to get every sport in this year.

Looking Forward

Jumping ahead after the interview a few things happened between that time and now. The original start date for winter sports was November 30th but, NYSHAA pushed all sports back to January 4th for a start date. Along with both boys and girls lacrosse being moved down to moderate risk coming down from high risk making lacrosse looking hopeful for a spring start.  But with the numbers still on the rise the state government and NYSHAA are hesitant to allow the start of winter sports senses all but one mostly take place inside in  gymnasium that one outlier being Skiing.

In the ABC news article by Devin Dwyer and Janet weinstein I found it was about voting super centers to help combat Covid and have more people vote while following cdc guidelines. It had a few forms of media that was being used to convey a message across.

Print? In the article they had about 4 pictures that help paint the picture for the audience to see what a super center would be and look like. It was nice to be-able to see pictures. They also had one picture of a screen shot fo there video

Audio? The only audio was from the video nothing to special.

Video? The video was very nice to watch it was about 6 and a half minutes long they did a tour of a stadium that can be a super center for voting in the upcoming election. It was great because you can listen to it while you are doing something and still be able to understand the video. It also adds a great visual to it.

Interactive? There were 3 options one to share to facebook, the other to twitter, and the last one to share with someone via email. There was almost a comment section to voice your option or ask questions. There were also 2 ads both targeted towards me.

Main news element

For the main news element in this story it would have to be relevance due to the fact that the coronavirus and its impacts on the upcoming election. This impacts many people because now there could be less mail in ballots and more people now may have the option to go to these super voting centers and feel more safe.

Sub news element

For the sub news element I would have to be impact. This is due to the fact that its relationship to the election and the coronavirus pandemic and how they both tie to it, this article shows us how it could impact someone.
